So we all have heard and love Metallica and lets be honest, in a genre like metal where unless you have good music you cannot reach the top no matter how big of a butt you have or how fast you can pronounce words backed by a computerized music at a constant metronome. Metallica undoubtedly is one of the greatest metal bands of all time and this is the list of the top 5 songs by Metallica. Now I know I am going to get a lot of hate for this so feel free to call me a poser or whatever you "Elite Metalheads" like to call who doesn't like what you like.
So that was what we thought were The Top 5 Metallica songs. Don't agree with us? Put down you list below in the comments section. Peace out.
Number "5: "Enter sandman" - Black Album(1991)
For a band that has produced hundreds of legendary songs (151 to be exact), narrowing it down to just 5 was just agonizing, but we had to start somewhere. So coming at Number 5 is the well known Metallica masterpiece from the Black Album. The song starts with a nice picking and slowly bursts into a riff that you won't be able to forget your entire life. The song features the very typical Metallica features like explosive James Hetfield vocals, the Kirk being virtually married to the "Wah-Wah" pedal, the nicely synced drums by Lars and the trademark Jason Newsted bass. Everyone who have heard only one Metallica song, It is this one. Based on a child's night prayer, it quickly escalates to a thrash metal classic with an eargasamic solo by "Mr. Ripper" and before you know it you're "Off To Never Never Land".Number 4: "Creeping Death" - Ride The Lightning(1984)
Coming in at number 4 is the power house of a song "Creeping Death". This song is undoubtedly the most power packed song on the list which delivers a punch of pure thrash metal form start to finish. Most of the song's lyrics are from bible or at least inspired from the bible shortly narrating the story of the Pharaoh and Mosses. The song sky rockets in the middle by a truly amazing solo followed by the most iconic singalong pieces in the world ever. When the riff resumes after the solo you will quickly realize that the theme has changed and you cant help but headbang and chant "DIE! DIE! DIE!" along with James. Not long after you will want to "Let it be written" and "Let it be done".Number 3: "One" - ...And Justice For All(1988)
Okay it was super hard to decide a better song between "One" and "Master Of Puppets". Now I might get a lot of hate for this but this is the kind of decision I had to make based on what I like more. No doubt both are perfect songs whatsoever. The war based theme "One" explains the agony of a solider who is badly wounded by an exploding mine. The song opens up in a soft ballad style and gradually builds up pace to a facemelting solo and time to time swinging back into melodic shelter that the song builds in the start. This song is just the basic definition of what a war themed song should be. Gives you exactly what a devastated solder should feel like: Anger and Sadness.Number 2: "Master Of Puppets" - Master Of Puppets(1986)
Why chose this over one? That solo, That damn solo. No doubt "One" has a great solo, no arguing that but what makes this a little bit better is that Hetfield part which leaves you paralyzed for quiet a while followed by Kirk's monstrous shredding. Other than that, Play the main riff to any Metalhead he will recognize it quicker than it will take him time to recognize his own brother. The point is, that riff is just what everyone has in mind when you say the word "Thrash metal". Based on the harmful effects of drugs and how it can control and manipulate a human being, this song is the very essence of thoughtful lyric writing. Hence the name "Master Of Puppets".Number 1: "Fade to black" - Ride The Lightning(1984)
"Perfect" is what comes to mind when you mention "Fade to black". This power ballad is THE most underrated Metallica song in existence. The song is apparently about someone who is ready to die and has given up hope but in reality the song has a much deeper meaning. The lyrics are just too good to be explained by words. Consider this, the song has no chorus and yet is just so mesmerizing. It truly is magic. Ever heard a picking pattern which sounds a bit happy yet extremely sad? well the second picking pattern in the start of the song is just that. Then the song opens up to a teardroping solo which will literally give you goosebumps everytime you hear it be it a millionth time. Then comes the saddest lyrics Metallica has to offer. The song is just pure dispair. Listening to the 7 minute track, you cannot feel a single ray of hope or infact any other feeling to be offered. Just unblended pessimism throughout the length of the song. Apart from the melodious solos it also offers a riff so strong that it needed only one riff throughout the song up untill the end. Coming to the end, Oh God. That ending, leaves one speechless for quiet a while. How do you end a song with upsetting lyrics? You end it with these lines "Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye". Then the song ends with the most heartbreaking solo in existence. And then the song literally Fades to black....So that was what we thought were The Top 5 Metallica songs. Don't agree with us? Put down you list below in the comments section. Peace out.
