Kong : The skull island. Return of the king after 13 years.

Review by: Yahya durrani

Kong: Skull Island. A bigger, better Kong?
Continuing the legacy of unusually giant apes who are always considered a threat since 1933, this wannabe blockbuster showcased the biggest ape yet. The movie was announced in the mid of 2014 by legendary pictures at San Diego comic-con. The movie made a lot of talk in the town. Last time a movie of the Kong franchise was released, it was back in 2005 and it was a success (somewhat). The movie revolves around a group of discoverers who are determined to explore the unexplored island in the name of USA. So a U.S. government agent Bill Randa (portrayed by John Goodman ) along with a former SAS commando captain James Conrad (portrayed by Tom hiddleston), a group of seismologists and their military escort lead by Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard (portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson) go to visit the unexplored “Skull island” but little do they know that this island is home to an ancient giant ape who is exceedingly larger than the mountains on the island but somehow manages to hide until the dramatic music is played. When the team reaches the island, they start dropping bombs to use the vibrations to map the island correctly. This obviously makes Kong very angry and he deliberately knocks the whole helicopter squadron out of the sky. Not taking sides here, but Kong did the most logical thing here. I mean if you’re in the middle of your nap and someone comes in and starts breaking shit, you’re not gonna ask them to move out nicely, you are going to blow their heads off their shoulders. So that’s pretty much what Kong does. All of the helicopters crash land, scattering the group across the island. Soon they realize that Kong isn’t the only threat to them and the place is filled with creatures that want to have them as lunch.
What do we think of it?
Well to a common viewer, the 2 hours spent watching the movie, were certainly not wasted. But was the movie good enough? Yes and no. As far as the visual effects and cinematography is concerned, everything was spot on there. The movie was in no way a cheap movie. Brilliant actors did an excellent job of portraying scared humans scattered across an island. However, there are some points that make you wonder if there could be done something to make the movie a “BETTER” watch, which brings us to the NO part. Yes the VFX are excellent but the first thing we have against the movie is the sheer size of the chimp. I mean being huge is one thing but come on. That thing is bigger than the mountains and yet somehow manages to hide in the treetops?? And moreover it’s so light on its feet that no one can hear it stomp it’s freaking HUGE feet until it arrives to the scene.Another problem with this movie is that there is just not enough Kong in it.As much budget this movie had it doesn't have that much of the great ape.
All in all this movie gets a Reviewlocity score of 7.6/10 making it a good movie to watch.
